The Villa and Surroundings

Villa Roma is located on top of a hill facing Bracciano Lake and surrounded by uncontaminated woods of the natural reserve of Bracciano. Don't be surpised if you get to see wild bird, boars and porcupines living free all around. Trevignano is a picturesque village of about 4,000 inhabitants stretching along the northern shore of Lake Bracciano, formerly known as Lake Sabatino. Built on a basalt cliff, the village lies at one end of a small bay, formed by the secondary crater of an extinct volcano. Thanks to its south-facing position and the presence of thermal waters, the place has always attracted human habitation. Indeed, prehistoric archaeology has brought to light the existence of a now-submerged lakeside village built on stakes, dating back to the Bronze Age.

Bracciano Lake is extremely popular among roman citizens who want to escape from the busy city. In fact, a lot of Romans have decided to establish themselves in one of the 3 towns along the lake, Bracciano, Trevignano or Anguillara. It’s hard to believe that such a beautiful, historical and uncontaminated place can exist just 30 minutes outside Rome. During your stay with us you'll get to explore Bracciano, Trevignano and Rome as...Cooking's Just the Half of It!

Evidence of Trevignano’s former importance as an Etruscan settlement are the many necropolises which stretch for some three kilometres along the hills behind the present-day village. These have yielded interesting finds which are now housed in the municipal museum of archaeology. If you decide to spend a little more time in this beautiful area then you might find our recommendations for things to do and see in and around Rome useful. We've also compiled a list of excellent wines from the Rome Region...don't try them all at once though...
