Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay a Single Supplement? -

We have never charged a single holiday supplement and we never will! We did actually promise when we started in 1998 that we will never penalise single travellers.

Will I feel lonely as a single traveller or, worse, not have enough time for myself? -

The balance of cooking, free time and excursions is just right, and as a single traveller in Flavours Holidays, you will to get to know your fellow guests very easily in very comfortable surroundings. Whether you’re used to travelling alone or simply taking some time out for yourself, our venues are geared towards allowing you to be part of the group when it suits and striking out on your own when you want to.

What other activities will I enjoy on my holiday? -

Joining a Flavours holiday is not just a typical tourist experience as we focus on travelling with a purpose and the opportunity to see the authentic Italy. Our local Italian hosts have lived both in the UK and abroad, and know exactly what to do to avoid making our guests feel like tourists. They will always be by your side and organise trips to wine tastings, local food producers and market visits, and sites of cultural interest.

What age group are the people going on your singles holidays and where are they from? -

We tend to have different age groups joining Flavours singles holidays. As we understand that it is important to be with like minded people we always do our best to match ages so we always make sure that you will be in the same age group as your fellow single travellers. Our guests are from all over the world! We are very popular to UK travellers but we also have lots of international guests mostly from USA, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and South Africa.

Do I have to bring my own equipment to your holidays? -

For the Pilates Holiday, we supply mats, so the only thing you need to bring is suitable and comfortable clothing for the course.

Generally most guests joining us on a painting holiday already have their own materials and prefer to use them. If not, our tutor can give you a list of painting materials that you would need for the holiday. We provide easels, stools and board.

How many / long are the Pilates lessons and how are they designed? -

On your Pilates holiday you will have 10 lessons in total each between one and two hours long. You will have two lessons each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The lessons are targeted at your level of ability and will meet your individual needs. You will also take part in two cooking lessons to get an authentic taste of la dolce vita.

How many people will be in my class? -

For all our activities, we keep the groups small with a minimum of four and a maximum of ten people per class. This way your teacher can focus on the individual needs in the group and you’ll get the most out off your holiday.

What/where will I be painting on my holiday? -

On your painting holiday you will recreate the dramatic landscapes of Tuscany, Sicily, and Venice using watercolours, pastels and charcoal. On your day trips, you will also get inspired by local architecture and artwork and get the chance to sketch historic sights and buildings. At the end of your painting holiday you will have the opportunity to present your work to your fellow artists whilst enjoying authentic Italian food and wine.

What level do I have to be at when coming on a Flavours Holiday? -

Guests on our holidays in Italy arrive with different abilities which means that you don’t have to be at a certain level. Our inspiring teachers will ensure that your individual needs, abilities and learning expectations are met by demonstrating and developing with you appropriate painting, Pilates, cooking or language techniques.

What is an Italian language holiday like? -

At the beginning of your trip, your group will be split into beginners and intermediate Italian speakers. This way our experienced, native Italian teacher can adapt to the different levels of language skills within the groups and meet individual needs.  There will be approximately 10 lessons throughout the week with your Italian tutor. The lessons are designed to be fun and relaxed. On our day trips you will have the opportunity to try out what you learnt amongst native speakers which will help to achieve fluency faster.

What type of food will we be cooking? -

You’ll learn new techniques and skills, while creating recipes traditional to the region using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Dishes you will sample will be different from location to location. Whilst the dishes will vary, one thing is guaranteed: the food will be local and authentic to the Italian culture. To find out more about the dishes you will prepare on your cooking holiday, check our recipe site.

How long are the cooking lessons and how are they structured? -

Your lessons will range between two and three hours and take place each day. They include the preparation of a starter, main and dessert and with a true passion for cooking, our local chefs will ensure that you’ll get the most out off each and every class. Just like the Italian cuisine, we make sure that the recipes you’ll learn are tasty but simple. This way, it will be easy for you to recreate the dishes once you are back home.
