Widely regarded as one of the most gorgeous and romantic cities in the world, Venice is predominantly famed for its unique network of canals which are the sole way of getting around. However, although the ancient town’s iconic waterways may be its predominant attraction, its historic buildings and rich culture are just as big a reason to visit. Venice’s iconic Grand Canal is surrounded on either side by stunning Renaissance architecture in the form of palaces and churches, while the Piazza San Marco plays host to the breath-taking St Mark’s Basilica.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection houses some of the world’s finest modern art, or for those more interested in traditional art the Galleria dell’Accademia is full to the brim with classic Renaissance works. Meanwhile the Teatro La Fenice is undeniably one of the world’s most beautiful opera houses.

That’s not to forget the Venice’s unique cuisine which is largely focused around seafood, due to the city’s location atop a lagoon. Traditional dishes range from sarde in saor which features sardines marinated in onions, raisins and pine nuts, to squid ink seafood risotto. The nearby Prosecco region also ensures there is sparkling wine a plenty in Venice.
