A new online video course from Flavours teaches painting with acrylics for beginners with a focus on enjoyment and self-expression, rather than drawing skills or perspective.

Acrylic paint is a favourite amongst artists and beginners alike thanks to its versality and quick drying qualities.
Painting tutor Douglas Matthews will take you step by step through the medium of acrylic with his easy-to-follow videos. You will master the essential basics of acrylic painting and how to embrace the creativity of this type of painting.

This painting course will help learners explore materials and simple landscape elements and the approach aims to foster enthusiasm and build confidence in painting for a wide range of learners, from beginners through to those seeking artistic relaxation.
Douglas will demonstrate that minimal drawing skills are required to create meaningful and satisfying paintings using acrylic paint.
As Douglas says “it’s all about having fun” and enjoying the process of painting with acrylics rather than feeling constrained.
The course is divided into four parts – materials, painting the sky, painting the foreground, and painting woodland scenes. This step-by-step approach will help you to focus on different elements of painting with acrylics.
Course Outline:
Lesson 1 – Choosing Paints, Brushes & Materials
Introduction to various painting materials when painting with acrylics.
Lesson 2 – Painting the Sky
Techniques and approaches to painting skies and clouds down to the horizon without emphasising technical accuracy.
Lesson 3 – Foreground
Methods for painting foreground elements (in this lesson it is the sea and beach scene) to complement the sky and overall composition.
Lesson 4 – Woodland Scenes
Shifting entirely from painting a seascape to painting woodland and trees using acrylics, demonstrating how little drawing can still produce strong paintings.
