Flavours’ Favourite Moments of 2019

A lot of wonderful people work with Flavours across all activities and regions to make every holiday a success. We spoke to some of them about how fantastic 2019 has been and to reflect on some of their favourite moments!

Johanna - Sicily

Johanna Dollerson – Pilates Teacher

1. What has been your favourite region to visit this year?
Sicily in September was possibly the perfect Pilates teaching moment for me this year – outside under the warm early morning sun, and later in the evening with the sunset overhead and a day of fun and food under our belts. Fresh air, good relaxing exercise, an enthused and determined class — it was ideal! Exploring the baroque towns nearby was magical. And a beach day with white sands and blue green breakers was total luxury.

2. What was the most memorable experience you’ve had on a Flavours holiday in 2019?
A particular highlight of our morning Pilates class was the little family of donkeys who lived nearby. At odd moments their huge ears would peep up over the top of the wall behind us! I’m pretty sure they wanted to join in.

Jo Luckman - Amalfi

1. What has been your favourite region to visit this year?
I’m torn! It’s between Amalfi because of its breathtaking coastline and Tuscany which I adore. It is so beautifully scenic with its rolling hills, elegant Cypress trees, incredible sunsets, gorgeous quirky little towns and totally delicious food!

2. What was the most memorable experience you’ve had on a Flavours holiday in 2019?
I think it has to be sitting with my guests in a beautiful terrace bar outside at a very swish hotel in Positano. The sun was setting, and it was an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of Positano.

We all had a fantastic cocktail delivered by a very handsome waiter. My guests were all so happy, and then they presented me with a gift they’d bought me which was a brass figure of a mermaid – in our Pilates classes I would always get them to imagine they were mermaids when we did our side-lying exercises! It was an extraordinary moment.

1. What has been your favourite region to visit this year?
I don’t have a favourite region because every region for me is different and with its own beauty, with its delicious food and beautiful places to visit – I love them all!

2. What was the most memorable experience you’ve had on a Flavours holiday in 2019?
The most memorable experience was when one of the holiday groups created a song dedicated to me and the chef Mauro to say thank you!

Susannah Garland

Susannah Garland – Painting Teacher

1. What has been your favourite region to visit this year?
My favourite place has to be Sicily, specifically probably the main Cathedral square in Siracusa. Having climbed up narrow lanes, surprisingly catching the odd glimpse down sidewalks of azure blue sea, suddenly you’re into the Cathedral Square. It’s a breathtaking expanse of honey-coloured architecture bathed in strong sunlight, café umbrellas, people gazing in awe at the stunning Cathedral and other beautiful buildings.

2. What was the most memorable experience you’ve had on a Flavours holiday in 2019?
My memorable event is the stop off on the way home from dinner in Ragusa, when we take in the elevated sight of Modica at night, the brightly lit Cathedral sitting proudly in the midst of twinkling lights. Always a show stopper!

Maria Elena

Maria Elena – Operations Manager

1. What has been your favourite region to visit this year?
Venice because it’s very close to my hometown, Treviso, that guests visit too. I’m very proud of Treviso, and I love Venice also. I enjoy showing the guests the Calli (streets) of Venice that are not too touristy and talk about Tiramisu – that is from Treviso.

The first time I went to Treviso and Venice was with the painting guests, and they really appreciated the tours we did of Treviso and Venice. It was a pleasure to show them what I like the most and share with them traditions, history and authentic culinary aspects of Treviso and Venice.

2. What was the most memorable experience you’ve had on a Flavours holiday in 2019?
I really enjoyed working as a host for the first time for some of the cooking short breaks. I had the chance to explain to the guests the variety of holidays that Flavours offers and all the passion and commitment we always put in to organise the holidays. In those short breaks, I also had the opportunity to meet and work with Cher Loh, the main chef of the cookery school of Good Housekeeping, and it was a new and exciting collaboration.
